Hatfield House and Gardens

Built by Robert Cecil, Chief Minister to King James I. On a guided tour of the house, you will see a marvellous collection of pictures, furnishings and historic armour on display. 
Parts of the Royal Palace of Hatfield, built by Henry VIII, survive in the West Garden where Elizabeth I spent most of her childhood. In the park is an oak tree marking the place where the young Princess Elizabeth first heard of her accession to the throne.
